Botox FactsBotox™ is a trade name given to a product derived from the Botulinum Toxin. Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxin protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum; one of the most poisonous naturally occurring toxins in the world. It has even been developed for use in chemical warfare! Doctors later found that a weakened form of this powerful toxin could be used in small amounts to treat certain medical conditions. Botox™ was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for problems with the eye muscles. It was later observed that a side effect of Botox™ usage was a slight reduction in wrinkles in the areas around the eyes where eye muscles had been treated. Botox™ is injected through the skin and into the muscle where it temporarily paralyzes the muscle.
